Our Story

How it all started...

The vision for Ecclesia Community Church started on the campus of UTB, which is now called UTRGV, as The Gathering. It was the beginning of the college ministry for First Baptist Church of Brownsville, TX, as well as a student organization on the university campus. Pastor James and his wife had a desire to reach college students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the hope and dream was to start a collegiate church on the campus of UTB, but unfortunately it was not the right timing.
A couple of years later the The Gathering changed its name to Ecclesia and continued to be a college ministry on the UTRGV campus. In 2019 Pastor James felt God calling him to start a new church in Brownsville and to focus on reaching college students, young adults, and young families. Ecclesia Community Church was birthed.

Expanding the vision...

In 2020 Ecclesia Community Church was given a great opportunity to start worship services in an a church building that had been given to FBC. What had been intended to be a church for college students was being birthed as a multigenerational church, with the same vision, to go and make disciples.

Where we are headed...

God has called Ecclesia Community Church to reach the community in the North East part of Brownsville, TX. ECC is located in the middle of the second largest high school, one of the biggest middle schools, and one of the biggest elementary schools in Brownsville. We do not believe that our church location is by accident. Because God has given us such a great opportunity to reach the families of the students, we are going to be focused on doing just that.
We have also be given an opportunity to reach families in the apartment complex, Rosemont at El Dorado and as a church we have adopted that apt. complex as our own. We have set up a Kids Backyard Club for kids in grades K5-5th on Monday afternoons, every other week and we plan to host different workshops for residents at the apt. complex.
